It Was Totally Awesome!

Went to Supanova’s Gold Coast Expo today to meet James and Oliver ๐Ÿ˜€ AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

It was amazing xD Like last time, I went with my brother and sister-in-law and this time we were much more dressed up.ย  Last year was our first time going so we didn’t really know what to expect and felt underdressed with our outfits ๐Ÿ˜› So my brother dressed as Harry, and my sister and I as random Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students.ย  We got there much earlier than last time and so overall had a much better day.ย  The venue was 100% better.ย  In Brisbane it was just a mash of queues lining up for 4 hours with absolutely no room to move, no one knew what lines were lining up for who, the volunteers were useless and you were outside in the heat most of the day.ย  The Gold Coast one is held at the Convention Centre and apart from liking up for 40 mins for the doors to open, your in air conditioning all day which is a nice bonus.ย  And plenty of space to move.ย  And carpet to sit on.ย  Brilliant.ย  Anyway!ย  Because we got there early, the photos weren’t sold out this time xD Which was bound to brighten the day before it began.

We were among about the first 20 people to get our autographs from them.ย  As such their handwriting is nice and neat and because its early and they’re not pushing the queue forward you got to have a chat with them and shake hands (ahh!! :P) They were really lovely and willing willing to answer any questions ๐Ÿ™‚ I froze ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I couldn’t speak at all.ย  My sister-in-law was before me asking half a dozen questions.ย  Then came me and I said hi. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ My only regret of the day hehe.ย  So they prompted me and asked me where I was from and how far I’d traveled ๐Ÿ™‚ The girl behind me asked James if he’d tried Vegemite yet.ย  He said no, that he’d tried Marmite and hated it ๐Ÿ˜› I don’t know all the questions my sister-in-law asked, but she did ask if when they looked at photos of themselves if they recognised one another straight away to which they said the majority of the time haha ๐Ÿ˜› While we were waiting in like some news people came up and filmed the 3 girls standing directly in front of us as the girl had a couple of Harry Potter tattoos.ย  Not that they were dressed up, because they weren’t.ย  Us three standing behind them were.ย  Which was a little annoying, but just as well, because if I had a news camera shoved in my face?ย  I’d smile and laugh.

Anyway then we had pretty much all day to wander until our 2.45 photo session ๐Ÿ™‚ We listened to about 15 minutes of Peter Facinelli’s talk (Carlise Cullen from Twilight) in which he answered what drew him to Twilight, what they’re really drinking when they’re drinking blood, and some stuff about how he came into acting.ย  He was originally asked to go for an interview with the director, there was no script so he asked for the book and he stayed up all night reading it because he couldn’t put it down.ย  He then missed out on the part because they thought he looked too young.ย  But things fell through with the second actor, and so he was called back.ย  After he set the director a vampire book.ย  And as we were leaving, he was telling us about how he’d rung up sick on the day of a school play.ย  My bro and sis got up on stage and played Rock Band but I was too scared because I’ve never played before and I didn’t know the song ๐Ÿ˜› Had a wander around the stalls, although for us we we’re not really interested in most of it.ย  We’re only into it for Harry.ย  So while theres tonnes of amazing costumes around, we don’t know what 90% of them are meant to be.ย  There were a number of Harry Potter costumes.ย  I think it was mostly random Hogwarts students, although we got a photo with Rita who was also at Brisbane last year ๐Ÿ™‚ I think there was possibly more Harry Potter costumes than the last time we meant?ย  But less variety?ย  Last time we met a Quirrel, 2x Hagrid, Voldemort… But I’m not sure ๐Ÿ˜› Of course they could’ve been there, and we just missed them.

Also ran into one of The Brisbane Muggles who I hadn’t met before, Rebecca, which was really cool ๐Ÿ™‚ And my wand broke.ย  Again.ย  2 days after gluing it back together and touching it back up with paint.ย  Ah well.ย  Had my Skiving Snackbox to make up for it ๐Ÿ˜› And then it was time to line up for our photos again… and you were in and out of the photo booth in like 5 seconds.ย  You say hi, you smile, you thank them and you leave.ย  That said, love how the photo turned out (although I perhaps would’ve fixed my tie if I’d known) ๐Ÿ™‚ Needs prime place on my wall, I think…

All in all, a great day.ย  It was totally awesome!

More photos soon.ย  Maybe.

  1. You got to meet James and Oliver?? You’re so lucky! I’d kill to meet them (Let me go find my wand!)
I saw them (sort of) at the Irish premiere for DHP2, but being smaller than the majority of people there (height wise, not age) I got shoved to the back…

    • Yep ๐Ÿ™‚ Pretty expensive though. It was $60 to get both of their autographs and $80 for a photo with them. Well worth it anyway! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I went to the Harry Potter Home Entertainment Celebration in Orlando, FL for the release of the final blu-ray and had the pleasure of meeting many cast members, but James and Oliver were by far the nicest. (Except for the guy who plays Filch, that guy was tops!)

  3. I’m going to Supanova this year, for the first time, do you have any advice as to what I should do? Also, what time do you recommend I get there?

    • I will assume you’re talking about Brisbane Supanova? I’m really not quite sure – I’ve only been to both that one and the Gold Coast once. We arrived on about opening time I think, and spent first hour waiting outside in the queue – by the time we got to the door to get our tickets, photos with Evanna Lynch were all sold out, but we could still get autographs.

The next year we went to the Gold Coast Supanova, got there about an hour early, still had to wait in the queue for ages, but were able to book our photos with the Phelps twins.

Really sort of depends who you’re seeing, what you want to get. The bigger stars will obviously sell out faster. I know the Phelps have been at Supanova once or twice before, so that will draw some of the crowds away – also by their expense as they cost 2x what anyone else does because there’s 2 of them ๐Ÿ˜› If you’re going for other people, want autographs from multiple people, etc, definitely get their earlier. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, food if you can (can’t remember if you were allowed to bring stuff in but I think we at least had nibbles – spent entire day trying to line up in queues so didn’t get any lunch til like 4).

Also dunno if Brisbane has changed, but we went there 2 years ago and the crowds were horrendous, and the autograph queues.. no one knew who was queueing for what as it was all very badly organised, volunteers didn’t know what lines led to who, and was very tightly packed in with everybody. So yeah, avoid big bags, prams, get money out of ATM beforehand and most importantly – have fun and be nerdy! If you’re not going in costume, try and wear a tshirt or something – everyone will be dressed up! ๐Ÿ˜€
